Preparatory Year within the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures

 

Since the year 2015, the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures has been accredited for organising the specific activities of the Preparatory Year. The Preparatory Year of Romanian language for foreigners is a university study programme of at least 28 weeks of teaching activities (60 ECTS credits), completed with a linguistic competence exam in Romanian language for the minimum B1 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning.

Graduating the Preparatory Year for Romanian language learning is conditioned by obtaining 60 transferable study credits related to the compulsory disciplines and optional subjects in the curriculum. Otherwise, the students may take, on request, an extra year, after paying the fees of the additional year. Students who do not achieve the 60 credits or do not pass the exams of the additional year will be expelled. The graduating exam of the Preparatory Year is carried out in the higher education institutions who organised the training programme, in accordance with the regulations approved by the Ministry of National Education at the proposal of the Institute of Romanian language, after consultation with the accredited higher education institutions and in accordance with its own methodology approved by the Senate by the host institution.

The institutions organising the Romanian language Preparatory Year issue the candidates, who have passed the final examination, a certificate of graduation of the Preparatory Year of Romanian language and an additional description, in accordance with the rules in force. Moreover, the graduates are given the right to enroll in the programmes of study within the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures or any other universities in Romania. The lectures and seminars are conducted by teachers with experience and competence in the field, who take advantage of various methods for the development of reading, writing and speaking in Romanian language.

The purpose of these teaching activities is also to facilitate the acquisition of an adequate level of knowledge of the Romanian language for specific purposes. (Philology, Medicine, Mathematics, Economics, Technical Sciences).

The Preparatory Year aims at preparing foreign students to meet the requirements of studying in Romanian by non-native speakers. The skills acquired by foreign students consist of theoretical and practical knowledge of the Romanian language, of the correct perception of oral and written discourse, of producing fluent oral and written texts, depending on various topics, vocabulary and style of speech being adapted according to the type of recipient, the text and the subject dealt with.
